Season 2, Episode 1: Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

After Joe collapses at the bar, it's found out that he requires a surgery he can't afford. Addison asks Meredith to be her intern for the day, which makes Meredith very uncomfortable. Dr. Webber asks George to tell him what's going on while he recovers from surgery, which George is reluctant to do. Cristina tells Meredith she's pregnant, but doesn't say who the father is.
Season 2, Episode 2: Enough Is Enough

In "Enough is Enough", the common theme is the destructive power of secrets. A family secret is disclosed when a mother is admitted to Seattle Grace following an automobile wreck. The task of medical staff is complicated when a patient won't disclose a mysterious swallowed object. Personal relationships among the staff are strained. Cristina and Meredith deal with the end of romantic relationships, and George has a hard time working alongside Olivia.

In "Make Me Lose Control", Meredith's mother goes to the hospital. There, Meredith finds out that her mother has Alzheimer's disease. Christina faints during an operation. Due to pregnancy complications, she loses her baby. Burke discovers her pregnancy now that it is too late. Mrs. Grey yells at George a lot, thinking that George is her husband.

Cristina ends up becoming a patient after having surgery, and her mother comes to visit her. Feeling restless, she ends up diagnosing Burke and Izzie's patient with Munchhausen's syndrome before she pushes herself too far and breaks down. Meanwhile, Alex asks Izzie out on a date he isn't able to enjoy as much as he wanted, Addison gives Derek the divorce papers, and Bailey treats a patient she cares about who has cystic fibrosis.

Meredith and Derek take care of an Asian girl who needs to see a shaman before surgery, according to her father's wishes, as a storm rages outside the hospital. During a power outage, George and Alex get stuck in an elevator with a critical patient who needs heart surgery and Alex can't cope with the challenge, so George steps up and performs the surgery.

Meredith nervously awaits a final decision from Derek. Many seriously injured patients are brought to the hospital after a train crash. Derek returns to his unfaithful wife, leaving Meredith to feel like she has been dropped. Because he was doing sutures, Alex fails to notice a woman bleeding internally, leading to her death. Addison sees great potential in Izzie, making her feel like she is not loyal to her friend Meredith.

In "Something To Talk About", Addison and Derek try to improve their marriage by beginning counseling sessions. One obstacle to their marriage is Meredith, and Derek claims that he is done with her. However, Meredith ends up in the spotlight in the hospital. Izzie and Christina find a medical marvel: a pregnant man. Preston comes clean about him and Christina to the Chief. Alex kisses Izzie.

A woman comes to Seattle Grace from New York, seeking help from Addison to get a hysterectomy and mastectomy. She is a friend of Addison and Derek, and is terrified of getting cancer, so she is electing to have the procedures done. Meanwhile George is upset because he had a life altering event in which he was almost hit by a man who fell from a roof top.
Season 2, Episode 9: Thanks for the Memories

Thanksgiving brings new stresses to the interns and residents. Izzie plans a big dinner, George deals with having to hunt turkeys with his father and brothers, and Meredith retreats to the hospital. Burke comes to help Izzie with dinner, but Izzie worries no one is going to come. In the end, Alex, George, and Cristina make it, and Meredith has a one night stand.

Meredith is embarrassed when her one night stand shows up at the hospital, needing medical treatment. Izzie, Addison and Derek are treating a woman who is pregnant with quintuplets and has a high risk pregnancy. Izzie catches Alex and Olivia having sex. Cristina reluctantly shows Preston where she lives. Alex administers one of his patients with the wrong dosage.

Izzie's attachment with a patient reaches new heights and Addison chooses to take the opportunity to warn her of the dangers of this kind of doctor-patient closeness. A prison inmate who becomes a patient at the hospital after putter her life at risk for the sole reason of avoiding heavy consequences frustrates Cristina. The rest of the interns take special care in watching after quintuplets who were born prematurely due to the multiple health issues within the family.

Cristina and Burke discover they have major philosophical differences during an argument over the treatment of a young boy who needs a heart transplant. Izzie feels betrayed when the interns help Alex prepare to retake his exam, and Meredith reminds her of the true spirit of the season. Even after a reconciliation with his wife, Derek isn't very cheerful either.

The nurses of Seattle Grace go on strike, which causes the interns to have a much bigger work load. Meredith saves a patient who was not supposed to be revived. Now all the Doctors must sit and wait for the patient's daughter to arrive before giving her anymore treatment. Izzie helps a pregnant teenager, and reveals secrets about her past.
Season 2, Episode 16: It's the End of the World

After Meredith refuses to get out of bed because of intuition telling her she may die today, her thoughts may be confirmed when the hospital ends up in a Code Black. This is the result of a patient arriving with an unexploded bazooka shell in his chest, with the only thing keeping it from destroying the hospital being the paramedic's hand inside the wound and keeping the round safe. As hospital staff are evacuated, Meredith finds herself on the small team remaining to deal with the disaster.

With her husband in the care of Derek, Miranda refuses to give birth to their baby until he's by her side. While George and Addison work to convince her she has to have the baby, Meredith removes a bomb lodged in a man's chest. It explodes and kills Dylan, leaving Meredith shaken. Adele comes to the hospital after Dr. Webber has an anxiety attack, and Cristina confesses her love to a sleeping Preston.

When Dr. Mark Sloan arrives in Seattle to convince Addison to continue their relationship, Derek punches him in the face, for flirting with Meredith. Derek does not accept Sloan's apology for sleeping with Addison. Dr. Webber lets Sloan assist Derek in a surgery to fix a teenage patient with facial tumors. George tells Meredith how he really feels about her.

Meredith and George try to avoid each other at work following their romantic encounter the night before. George worries Meredith may hove told some of the other interns that they slept together. Izzie begins to grow closer to Denny when he is readmitted for his heart condition. Alex becomes jealous of Izzie and Denny.

Cristina is forced to watch baby William when Dr. Bailey is called into surgery. Denny is having problems breathing. Meredith and Derek attempt to be friends. Alex tells Denny that he and Izzie are back together. A teenage patient decides to chop off his own finger after Callie will not do it for him.

A series of deaths occur at Seattle Grace, bringing out the doctors' superstitious sides. Izzy ends her relationship with Alex, after he informs Denny of the likelihood of his death. Addison and Derek talk of a permanent living situation. Richard treats a former sponsor from his alcoholic's anonymous group. Denny kisses Izzie after surviving his surgery.

George discovers Callie living in the hospital and begins a relationship with her. Izzie knits a sweater for Denny. To get more OR time, Bailey becomes Derek's intern for a day. Meredith finds out she has two half sisters. Izzie believes Callie has a secret. Meredith takes a vow of celibacy.
Season 2, Episode 23: Blues for Sister Someone

Izzie wants details from George about the personal details of his life. Addison and Alex treat a Catholic woman who is pregnant with her seventh child. Burke performs surgery on a man who wants a pacemaker removed because it has ruined his ability to play the violin, but he dies during surgery. George moves back in with Izzie and Meredith.

A family that was involved in a car accident caused by an intern from another hospital is brought in. The pregnant wife's baby is in danger, and Alex does a Caesarean section on her, saving the baby, but the mother still dies eventually. Elsewhere, Derek's anger towards Meredith gets the best of him, Burke is angry with Cristina, Callie is upset with George, and Denny is frustrated with being stuck in bed.

A 12-week pregnant girl dies in the O.R. as her parents try to keep the baby alive. The hospital is filled with many gunshot victims after a shooting at a nearby restaurant. Meredith and Callie work on a victim who was shot in the leg. Izzie convinces Denny to let her cut his LVAD wire, stopping his heart. Trying to stop Izzie, Burke is shot.
Season 2, Episode 26: Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response

The fight to keep Denny alive continues, and Derek must perform a risky operation on Burke's shoulder after he's been shot that could cause irreparable nerve damage. Cristina freezes in the OR during Burke's surgery. The Chief finds out that his niece's cancer has returned. As Denny's heart surgery becomes imminent, he asks Izzie to marry him. Alex asks Dr. Hahn to help him with the surgery since Burke isn't available.
Season 2, Episode 27: Losing My Religion

Izzie accepts Denny's marriage proposal. Meredith and Derek decide to put Doc to sleep. George and Callie discuss George's feelings. Meredith cannot choose between Derek and Finn. After experiencing a sudden sensation of pain, Denny dies of what is thought to be an unexpected blood clot, which caused a stroke.
