Season 1, Episode 1: A Hard Day's Night

She meets her fellow interns and quickly realizes that the one-night stand she had the night before is her new boss, Derek Shepherd. Preston Burke, a cardiothoracic surgeon at the hospital, chooses one of the new interns, George O'Malley, to perform the first operation.

Meredith, in turn, is struggling with the fact she knows nothing about Derek's life.
